Ready to dive into the importance of health and fitness?
I truly believed that mastering these 10 core principles will get you started on your road to increased energy, and being part of the Revival Community will help you go deeper and take your life to the next level.
#1 – BREATHING
Your body can’t function properly without enough oxygen. The first step in mastering your health is learning to breathe properly. Mark Leong recommends implementing “power breathing” into your life, inhale for a count of one, hold your breath for four counts and then exhale for two counts. This habit will help you to oxygenate your blood and can also calm you down when you’re feeling physically or mentally stressed.
#2 – LIVING NUTRIENTS
Staying hydrated is key to remaining healthy, but are you eating water-rich foods as well? Your diet should be full of water-rich foods like lettuce, grapefruit and watermelon. Ideally, 70% of your nutrient intake should be heavily water-based.
#3 – MOVE IT RIGHT
It’s not enough to simply exercise, how you exercise is also important. The key is to implement a blend of aerobic training and anaerobic training to your weekly routine. Aerobic exercises include different elements of cardio that provide oxygen to your bloodstream, and anaerobic exercises focus more on strength training, like weightlifting. You need both components for maximum health.
#4 – NOURISHMENT
Eating plenty of water-rich foods is essential, as is taking in lots of nutrient-dense foods like leafy greens. Adding in fiber and vitamins to your daily routine helps the body move through its natural processes, like digestion. Not only will this practice give you a surge of energy, but over time it’ll make your body operate more effectively. Additionally, you need to stop mindlessly eating when you’re bored or tired. Really think about what you’re putting into your body. Eat in a relaxed state and try to stick to a set schedule, eating breakfast at the same time every day and eating your last meal long before bedtime.
#5 – HEALTHY MIND
How are you directing your thoughts? The importance of good health extends into the state of your mind as well as your body. Schedule time to assess your emotions and thoughts. What are you thinking about and why? Let go of negative beliefs that are holding you back and accept that you are in charge of your emotions. Additionally, you can integrate practices like meditation into your schedule. Meditation has been shown to bolster productivity, decrease stress and help monitor moods.
#6 – BODY ALIGNMENT
Do you feel uncomfortable? It might be because your body is not properly aligned. Massages, chiropractic treatments and even basic at-home stretching are a good way to reinvigorate your body’s structural support. Be conscious of your posture and make sure to take walking or stretching breaks if you spend most of your day sitting.
#7 – HIGHLY PROCESSED FOOD
It’s normal to indulge in processed and sugary foods, and while they taste good in the moment, they do nothing to help you obtain your optimal health. Most processed foods are full of harmful fats that can damage the body over time. It’s more beneficial to swap these out for healthy fats, like the ones that come naturally from olive oils and nuts.
#8 – MEAT
Diets with too much meat consumption can lead to potentially increased cholesterol levels. If you don’t want to completely remove meat from your diet, try cutting down to one meal a day with meat. Then, cut out meat entirely for one day, then two, then three and see how many days you can go in a week without consuming meat.
#9 – DAIRY
Millions of people in the world are lactose intolerant and they don’t even know it. Do you feel fatigued after consuming dairy? Do you have digestive issues? Are your sinuses clogged up? Your body is having trouble processing dairy. When you eliminate dairy from your diet, you’ll notice you have way more energy, you’re digesting your food more efficiently and your skin will be clearer.
#10 – ACID ADDICTIONS
Lastly, cut out the damaging acid-based products in your life. Take a break from things like caffeine, alcohol, sugar and nicotine. These substances are addictive and can cause catastrophic issues for your body like obesity, heart disease, brain damage and diabetes. You can start reducing your intake of these items in moderation.
